  1. Don’t think that I am late when I say that I am sharing something really personal about this woman. You see, I had the biggest pleasure to encounter this woman and live briefly at her feet for a night. The words that she said to me will live deeply and inspire a 9 year old girl to go to college. You see, I think. I was destined to attend CAU. First because I was sent an application when I graduated from the 8th grade. And secondly, but most importantly because of this woman. My grandmother who was the President of the Women’s Chapter of The Chicago Urban League honored Marva Collins with a dinner and a fundraiser to help her school. I purposely sat directly next to her because she wanted to talk with me. We talked all night long even after she received her award. Her words to me I will cherish for the rest of my life and I will strive to ” BE THE BEST AT WHATEVER YOU DO, BECAUSE YOU CAN DO IT AND BE IT!”-Marva Collins to me. R.I.P. to one of the game changers in my life. Class of 1994. Anagural Freshman Class of CAU 1989-90
